Title: The Search
Artist Statement:
For my Adobe Audition project, I selected a 4:40 video clip from the Amazing World of Gumball. The original clip is about two brothers search for the meaning of life, which eventually escalates into a over a minute long musical performance by the planets of our solar system.
It was very difficult to come up with alternate dialogue that would shift the meaning of the clip while remaining semi-coherent. I know that coherence was not a requirement for this project, but it was something I chose to aim for none the less. I decided that, given the wide variety of scenery the brothers walk through, keeping A Search involved made sense. I decided to shamelessly rip off The Princess Bride and have them search for the man that killed their father. Changing the planet scene was particularly difficult, so I decided to change the planet's advice to be telling the brothers that any quest for vengeance was meaningless given the short lifespan of all life on earth. I decided to also make it the plant's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy RPG night, so I added in a bunch of HGG quotes.
There was a lot of dialogue, and matching it up to the visuals took me quite a while. I recorded all the dialogue of me talking, and added distortion over top of it to give each character a distinct voice. I tried to add in scene-appropriate foley and/or music to tie each individual sub-scene together. The graveyards scene had my favorite foley of Halloween music and zombie groans. I also added in and mixed "space music" for the planet scene, because there is no foley in space.
